Takahashi Shell Mound

Japanese: 高橋貝塚 - たかはしかいづか

A shell mound from the Early Yayoi period in Takahashi, Kinpu-cho, Hioki-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture. Located on the inland slope of a sand dune, it was excavated in 1962 and 1963. Two storage pits and one pit dwelling were found, and Early period pottery was excavated in two layers, with Yuusu type and Takahashi I type in the lower layer and Takahashi II type in the middle layer, and Middle period pottery in the upper layer. Single-edged stone axes, stone knives, stone sickles, ground stone arrowheads, ground stone swords, bone and horn harpoons, fish hooks, shell rings made from Gohora, cylindrical beads, and pumice figurines were excavated, shedding light on the state of the Early Yayoi culture at the southern tip of Kyushu.

鹿児島県日置郡金峰町高橋にある弥生時代前期の貝塚。砂丘の内陸側斜面に立地し，1962年，63年に発掘された。貯蔵穴2，竪穴住居1を検出，前期の土器は下･中2層に分かれて出土し，下層に夜臼（ゆうす）式と高橋I式，中層で高橋II式を検出，上層では中期の土器が出土した。片刃石斧，石庖丁，石鎌，磨製石鏃，磨製石剣，骨角製銛（もり），釣針，ゴホウラ製の貝輪，管玉，軽石製岩偶などが出土し，九州南端の弥生前期文化の様相を明らかにした。
