Hiromi Kono

Japanese: 河野広躰 - こうのひろみ

1864-1941 A freedom and civil rights activist from the Meiji period.
Born on January 15, 1861. Nephew of Kono Hironaka. Arrested in the Fukushima Incident in 1882. After his release in 1884, he plotted with his comrades to assassinate Fukushima prefectural governor Mishima Michitsune, who was involved in the repression, but when this was discovered he rose up in rebellion (Kabasan Incident). Sentenced to life imprisonment. Released in 1852, he worked in the immigration business in his later years. Died on February 20, 1941. Age 78. Born in Miharu, Mutsu (Fukushima Prefecture).

文久4年1月15日生まれ。河野広中(ひろなか)の甥。明治15年福島事件で検挙される。釈放後の17年,弾圧をくわえた福島県令三島通庸(みちつね)の暗殺を同志と計画したが,発覚して挙兵(加波山(かばさん)事件)。無期徒刑の判決をうける。27年出獄し,晩年は移民事業にたずさわった。昭和16年2月20日死去。78歳。陸奥(むつ)三春(福島県)出身。
