A numerical value that is assigned to the bond distance of a chemical bond (ionic bond, covalent bond, metallic bond, etc.) between the two atoms or ions that are connected, and is determined so that additivity holds for similar chemical bonds. Depending on the type of bond, it is distinguished as ionic radius, covalent bond radius, or metallic bond radius. The latter two and the van der Waals radius are collectively called atomic radius or elemental radius, and are contrasted with ionic radius.
