Thrust reverser

A device installed at the tail of a jet engine that generates thrust in the opposite direction to help aircraft brake when landing. It is also called a thrust reverser. Jet engines usually generate thrust by ejecting combustion gases backward from a nozzle at the rear. A thrust reverser blocks this jet at the rear end of the nozzle and ejects it sideways or forward to generate thrust in the opposite direction. The magnitude of this reverse thrust is usually 30-50% of the normal forward thrust.

ジェットエンジンの尾部に装備し，逆向きの推力を発生させて航空機の着陸時の制動に利用する装置。スラストリバーサともいう。ジェットエンジンは通常，後方のノズルから燃焼ガスを後ろ向きに噴射して推力を発生させる。この噴射流をノズルの後端でせき止め，横向きまたは前向きに噴き出して逆方向の推力を発生させるのが逆推力装置である。この逆推力の大きさは通常，正規の前進推力の 30～50%である。
