Southern Chinese drama. Also known as Nanqu. Northern zaju flourished during the Yuan dynasty (Yuanqu), but xiwen flourished most during the Ming dynasty (Mingqu). It originated in the Southern Song dynasty, and was revived in the early Ming with Gaoming's Pipa Ji. While Yuanqu strictly adheres to the rule of four acts per piece, there is no limit to the number of acts, and many are long. Works such as Jingcai Ji, Return of the Soul, and Nankaku Ji are considered masterpieces, all with 44 to 45 acts, and there are also works such as Changsheng Palace in the Qing dynasty. → Related Articles Peach Blossom Fan | Tang Xianzu Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
