Intermittent motion mechanism

A mechanism used in various automatic machines. It gives intermittent motion with a certain period of rest from the driving part (driver) of a continuously moving machine to the driven part (follower). It can be broadly divided into three types: (1) Both the driver and follower rotate, and the follower is stationary for a certain period of time (a typical example is an intermittent gear). (2) The follower is rotated in stages by an oscillating motion (ratchet mechanism). (3) The rotary motion is converted into intermittent reciprocating motion (mangle mechanism). In all cases, a locking mechanism is often used to ensure that the machine remains stationary, and in recent years, there has been a trend toward using hydraulic and electrical control.

各種の自動機械に用いられる機構の一つ。連続運動している機械の駆動部分 (原動節，主動節) から従動部分 (従動節，被動節) に，一定の静止期間をもつ断続的な運動 (間欠運動) を与える。次の3つに大別される。 (1) 原動・従動節とも回転運動し，ある期間だけ従動節が静止するもの (間欠歯車が代表例) 。 (2) 揺動運動によって段階的に従動節を回転させるもの (爪車機構) 。 (3) 回転運動を間欠往復運動に変えるもの (マングル機構) 。いずれも確実に静止状態を保つためロック機構を併用することが多く，最近では，油圧および電気的制御を活用する傾向にある。
