Yuzo Kayama

Japanese: 加山雄三 - かやまゆうぞう

Actor. Real name: Naoaki Ikebata. Born in Kanagawa Prefecture. His father is actor Ken Uehara. Graduated from Keio University in 1960 and joined Toho. Debuted in the action drama Man vs Man (1960). Starred in Independent Gurentai Goes West (1960) directed by Kihachi Okamoto. He played the carefree and cheerful young characters of the time in the Young General series, starting with Daigaku no Wakadaisho (1961), and gained popularity as a youth star. In 1966, his self-composed insert song Kimi to Itsumademo (With You Forever) became a big hit. Other appearances include Akira Kurosawa's Sanjuro (1962) and Akahige (1965), and Mikio Naruse's Turbulent Clouds (1967). From the 1970s onwards, he moved to television.

俳優。本名池端直亮。神奈川県生れ。父は俳優の上原謙。1960年慶応大を卒業し，東宝入社。アクション・ドラマ《男対男》（1960年）でデビュー。岡本喜八監督《独立愚連隊西へ》（1960年）で主演。《大学の若大将》（1961年）に始まる〈若大将シリーズ〉で当時の若者を屈託のない明るさで演じ，青春スターとして人気を博し，1966年には自作の挿入歌《君といつまでも》が大ヒットを記録した。ほかに黒澤明監督の《椿三十郎》（1962年）や《赤ひげ》（1965年），成瀬巳喜男監督《乱れ雲》（1967年）などがある。1970年代以降はテレビに活動の場を移した。
