Capercaillie - capercaillie

In a broad sense, it is a general term for two species of large ptarmigans belonging to the order Phasianidae, family Phasianidae, subfamily Ptarmigan, and in a narrow sense, it refers to one of them, Tetrao parvirostris . The male is 90 cm long and dark green all over. The female is 60 cm long, brown mottled all over with a red band on the chest. They live in the coniferous forests of northern Eurasia.

広義には鳥綱キジ目キジ科ライチョウ亜科に属する2種の大形ライチョウの総称で、狭義にはそのうちの1種Tetrao parvirostrisをさす。雄は全長90センチメートルもあり、全体に暗緑色をしている。雌は全長60センチメートル、全体が褐色のまだら模様で胸に赤い帯がある。ユーラシア大陸北部の針葉樹林に生息している。
