… In the Southern Song Dynasty, Hangzhou was built a small palace with a circumference of 4km on the eastern side of Phoenix Mountain in the south of the city, and the main government offices were located from there north to Wushan. From there, the city spread along the main street called Imperial Street, which stretched to Wulinmen, and two canals, Yanqiao Canal and Xiaoshihe, and a commercial district also extended along the Qiantang River in the southeast. In addition to the two canals mentioned above, the main transportation within the city was the clear Qinghu River, which drew water from West Lake, but this was already saturated, so the Caishi River, which runs along the eastern city wall and connects the Qiantang River to the Grand Canal, was widely used. …
