An interface commonly used on PCs to connect hard disks. Its simple structure keeps hard disk drive prices down. The standard currently in use is called "Enhanced IDE (EIDE)", an extension of the original IDE. The official name of the IDE standard is "ATA (AT Attachment)", and it is standardized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Integrated Device Electronics An interface specification for connecting a PC to a hard disk, jointly developed by Compaq and Western Digital. It can connect two hard disks up to 528MB in size. It was standardized as ATA by ANSI in 1991, but is still often referred to as IDE today. ANSI Enhanced IDEATAIntegrated Development Environment An environment that has everything you need to develop software, such as an editor to write source code, a compiler to compile it, and a linker. PCで一般に使われている、ハードディスクを接続するためのインターフェイス。簡易的な構造をしているため、ハードディスクドライブの価格を抑えられる。現在使われているのは、もとのIDEを拡張した「EIDE（Enhanced IDE）」と呼ばれる規格。なお、IDEの正式な規格名は「ATA（AT Attachment）」といい、ANSI（米国規格協会）が標準化を行なっている。Integrated Device Electronics米Compaq社や米Western Digital社などが共同で開発した、パソコンとハードディスクを接続するインターフェイスの仕様。528MBまでのハードディスクを2台接続できる。1991年にANSIによってATAとして標準化されたが、現在でもIDEと呼ばれることが多い。ANSIエンハンストIDEATAIntegrated Development Environment統合開発環境。ソースコードを記述するエディターや、それらをコンパイルするコンパイラー、リンカなど、ソフトウェアを開発するために必要なものが整っている環境のこと。Sun One StudioやEclipse、JBuilderなどがこれに相当する。エディターコンパイラーリンカ
