...The early Middle Ages saw a gap of almost 200 years due to the conquest of Bengal by Muslim Turks. In the 15th century, Vaishnava literature was dominated by lyric poetry, centered on devotional songs, and Shakt (a sect that worships the goddess as the fundamental power of the world) miracle stories and devotional songs.

…A major sect of Hinduism that worships Vishnu or a deity believed to be his identity or incarnation as the supreme god. In Sanskrit, it is called Vaiṣṇava. Originally, Vishnu was just one of many sun gods in the Vedic religion, but over time, he was assimilated with various indigenous supreme deities (and their consorts) from various regions, and eventually became the greatest god in Hinduism, alongside Shiva.
