Meadow grasshopper

The first word that refers to a grasshopper in English is grasshopper. A representative species would be Chorthippus parallelus (English name: meadow grasshopper). There is no problem in assuming that the grasshopper sung about in J. Keats' poem "On the Grasshopper and the Cricket," which begins with the famous phrase, "Poetry on earth is not dead...," is of this species.
