[Late Imperial and Early Middle Ages (3rd to 7th centuries)]
The end of the Silver Age in the first half of the 2nd century left a gap in the history of Latin literature for about 200 years, as the Greek Renaissance movement arose in the empire and the intelligentsia wrote in Greek even in the western part of the empire. The only Latin writer worth mentioning in the two centuries after Gellius was the pastoral poet Nemesianus of the mid-3rd century. But the 3rd century was the period when Christian Latin writers emerged.
