Port-Royal (English spelling)

…a religious movement that arose in 17th-century France. Port-Royal was originally a convent for women founded in the 13th century in Chevreuse, a suburb south of Paris. In the early 17th century, it was reformed by its abbot, Arnaud Angélique Arnauld, and became famous under the guidance of François de Sales. In 1625, a branch of the Port-Royal was established in Paris, and the main one, which was reopened in 1648, was called Port-Royal des Champs. …
