Reparation

...The postwar settlement method and the reconstruction of each country were urgent international political issues, but the issue of German reparations, which was closely related to these issues, continued to be a hot topic for more than 10 years after the Treaty of Versailles (Versailles System). President Wilson of the United States, who first used the word "reparation," tried to keep the amount of reparations to a minimum. However, Britain and France, faced with the worsening of their domestic economies and the instability of their governments, and also with the need to repay war debts to the United States, argued for the exaction of heavy reparations from Germany.
