This refers to a group of kabuki, kodan, ninjyobanashi, naniwabushi, and other works in which Ooka Echizen-no-kami, the magistrate of the southern Edo region, appears. Ooka Tadasuke served as magistrate during the Kyoho era (1716-36) and was well known as a famous magistrate. From the end of the Edo period through to the Meiji era, kodan and ninjyobanashi were created from the book Ooka's Injunjiroku and other reading material, and even stories that had nothing to do with Ooka Echizen-no-kami (for example, the Tenichibo Incident was deliberated not by Ooka Echizen-no-kami but by Ina Hanzaemon) were all portrayed as trials of Ooka Echizen-no-kami, forming a huge body of work.
