Mononobe no Arakahi

Japanese:
Mononobe no Arakahi
Year of death: 1.7.536
Year of birth: Unknown
A politician and military commander from the end of the 5th century to the beginning of the 6th century. His name can also be written as Araka. According to the Tenson Honki, which is quoted in the Sendai Kuji Hongi, he was the 14th generation descendant of Nigihayahi no Mikoto and the son of Masara no Daimyo. He was already seen as Daimyo during the reign of Buretsu, and after his death, he decided to support King Otomo no Daiseki (later Emperor Keitai) with Otomo no Kanamura and Kose no Otomo no Otomo. In the 6th year of the reign of Emperor Keitai (512), when the so-called four Mimana prefectures were ceded to Baekje, Okokahi was appointed as an imperial emissary and was about to issue an imperial edict to Baekje guests at Naniwa-no-yakata (Osaka City), but he resigned, claiming to be ill, after his wife's admonition. In the 22nd year of the reign of Emperor Keitai, he is said to have personally traveled to Kyushu as the generalissimo to suppress the rebellion of Tsukushi no kuni no miyatsuko Iwai and killed Iwai. He also became Daimyo during both the Ankan and Senka reigns.
