Carson, RL

…A book by the American marine biologist and essayist Rachel L. Carson (1907-64), who denounced environmental pollution caused by pesticides. She warned, citing many examples, that organic compounds such as DDT, which have been sprayed in large quantities as pesticides and herbicides, have accumulated in the ecosystem and become seriously toxic to animals, plants, and humans, destroying the delicate balance of nature.
