A town in Kamikawa District, central Hokkaido. It occupies the mountainous area upstream of the Ishikari River, and the southern part belongs to Daisetsuzan National Park, with Mount Daisetsu, Sounkyo Gorge, and Aizankei Onsen. The Sekihoku Main Line and the Daisetsu National Highway, which connects Asahikawa and Kitami, run through the town. In addition to rice and dairy farming, freshwater fish farming and forestry are also carried out. Area: 1049.47 km2 . Population: 4532 (2010). 北海道中央部，上川郡の町。石狩川上流の山地を占め，南部は大雪山国立公園に属し，大雪山，層雲峡，愛山渓温泉がある。石北本線，旭川と北見を結ぶ大雪国道が通じる。米作，酪農のほか淡水漁の養殖，林業も行われる。1049.47km2。4532人（2010）。
