…Born in the ancient city of Tonnerre near Dijon as the son of a minor nobleman, he was selected as the Secret du roi under Louis XV due to his literary talent and fencing skills. He infiltrated the Russian imperial court of Empress Elisabeth Petrovna disguised as a woman (1755) and mediated between Russia and France during the Seven Years' War. Later, as a transvestite, he was appointed as an ambassador with full powers to England under the reign of George III (1762). After the death of Louis XV, he remained in London except for a trip to France in 1768, and left behind an anecdote in which he dueled with the greatest swordsman of his time, Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges, while cross-dressed. British sex psychologist HH Ellis considered him to be a typical example of transvestism (transvestism), and since then, the hobby of cross-dressing has also been called eonism. …
