From [Mototake Noro]

...He went to Kyoto and studied medicine under Yamawaki Genshu (Dotetsu), Confucianism under Namikawa Tenmin, and herbal medicine under Inao Wakamizu. In response to the Edo shogunate's policy of investigating domestic medicinal resources, he went to Edo in 1719 (the 4th year of the Kyoho era) to become a medicinal herb collector. Together with Wakamizu's fellow student Niwa Masataka, he engaged in medicinal herb collectors in Nikko and throughout the Kanto region, as well as in the Chubu, Hokuriku, and Kinki regions. In 1701, he traveled to the Izu Islands, and in the same year, he was given land for a house near the Kikoku Bridge in Edo. In 1706 (Genbun 4), he became a physician with official attendance, and the following year, at the order of Shogun Yoshimune, he studied Dutch with Aoki Konyo. Every year, he met with the head of the Edo court's trading post and physicians, and wrote and translated "Oranda honsho wakai" (1741), based on J. Johnston's atlas of plants and animals, and "Oranda honsho wakai" (1741-50), based on the herbal medicine of Dutch botanist and physician Rembert Dodonaeus (1516-85). In 1712 (Enkyo 3), he became a physician with official attendance and was awarded a stipend of 200 straw bales.
