Pillow Maniac - Pillow Maniac

Japanese:
Pillow Maniac - Pillow Maniac

The title of a Kyogen piece. A female Kyogen. The rumor that their 100-year-old grandfather is in love seems to be true, so two grandchildren go to see what is going on. The grandfather (shite, wearing a grandfather mask) appears in a daze, holding a bamboo with a pillow tied to it and singing, "I'm going crazy for a pillow..." When they ask him if he is in love, he denies it, saying that love is something young people do, and instead, while telling a terrifying old story about the love between the monk Shonin of Shiga-dera Temple and the priest Ki Sojo of Kaki-no-moto, he unconsciously sings, "If my grandfather's love is not fulfilled, he will throw himself into any well or into the bottom of a ditch..." He can no longer hide anything, and while he is reciting the whole story of how he was captivated by the beauty of Gyobu Saburo's daughter Oto at the Jizo-ko ceremony last month, one of his grandchildren brings Oto (wearing an Oto mask). The grandfather is delighted and goes in with Oto. The difficulty lies in the fact that the grandfather's love, which exposes his ugly old age, must be portrayed in a sensual and elegant manner.
