Used to erase ink writing. There are two types: for water-soluble ink and for oil-soluble ink. For water-soluble ink, there are one-component and two-component types. The one-component type uses only a solution of bleaching powder to decolorize, while the two-component type also uses oxalic acid as a main ingredient, which reduces organic lakes such as ferric tannate to ferrous iron, making them colorless. To distinguish between the first and second components, the second component is usually a pale red color. Dye ink can be erased with the first component, but the two-component type is used to erase blue-black ink. Oil-soluble ink erasers are marking pen type, and are permeated with a solvent for oil-soluble ink. They are used to erase writing by rubbing the writing surface, but while they can erase writing on impermeable surfaces, they are difficult to erase writing on permeable surfaces.
