In the Netherlands, the woman writer A. Rutgers often produced controversial works, and C. van Marxveldt is also popular among female students. Denmark is the country that gave birth to Hans Christian Andersen, the father of modern fairy tales, and Norway, which has collections of folk tales by Asbjornsen and Moo, has adventure stories by E. Herji, delightful tales by painter T. Egner, and children's stories by A. Prøysen. In Sweden, which gave birth to S. Lagerlöf's The Wonderful Adventures of Nils (1906-07), A. Lindgren is a wonderful and truly versatile writer.
