In terms of views on life, from the 16th to the 17th century, the ideas of the iatrochemists (medical chemistry school) originating from S. Santorio and Van Helmont, the iatrophysicists (medical physics school) represented by Borelli, and Descartes' dualism all attempted to understand the phenomenon of life in a unified way, reflecting the advances in physics and chemistry at the time. While these various views on life provided direction for experiments and observations, the views on life themselves also underwent changes due to new knowledge.
