sooners

Japanese: sooners
sooners

As white settlers in the eastern United States began to settle in the area, the Five Civilized Indian Tribes were forced to move to eastern Oklahoma in the 1820s and later, forming a territory. White speculators gradually invaded the area, and just before white settlers were permitted to settle in 1889, a wave of fugitives known as Sooners flooded in and occupied the land. The state's nickname remains the Sooner State today.
