Lepcha language - Lepchago

Japanese: レプチャ語 - れぷちゃご
Lepcha language - Lepchago

A language spoken mainly in Sikkim, in eastern Nepal, and western Bhutan. It is also called Rong. A grammar book and dictionary were created in the 19th century, but there are various theories about its affiliation, with some placing it in the Himalayan or northern Naga family, and others saying it is close to Amanita. It is also sometimes considered to be a substratum language, belonging to the Mon-Khmer languages. It is mainly monosyllabic, with words arranged in the order of subject, object, and verb, with case particles attached to nouns and adjectives placed after the nouns. "White horse" is horse ← white, and "good person" is person ← good. The vocabulary contains many loanwords from old Tibetan. The Lepcha script, created in the early 18th century, has more complex character shapes than Tibetan script, but the common theory is that its origin is in Tibetan script (without initials).
