A lagoon located in the Imizu Plain in the northwest of Toyama Prefecture. It belongs to Imizu City. Formerly known as Koshi-no-umi, it was a fairly large lake, but it has shrunk due to the accumulation of sediment from the flowing rivers and land reclamation. In 1961, construction work began on the excavated Toyama New Port, which uses the lagoon, and in 1964 the Toyama Takaoka area, including this area, was designated a new industrial city. Toyama New Port opened in 1968. The port is 14m deep and can accommodate ships of up to 80,000 tons. The excavated sediment has been used to create an industrial site of about 5km2 , and the former lagoon landscape has been almost completely lost.
