This refers to small and medium-sized enterprises that are knowledge-intensive and creative. Venture business is a Japanese-English term that was originally conceptualized by Hideichiro Nakamura and Tadao Kiyonari in 1970. It is a business venture in which highly skilled entrepreneurial personnel leave a large company to demonstrate their abilities, take on risks, and develop creatively. In the United States, such companies are called high potential ventures or new growth ventures.

知識集約的で創造的な中小企業をいう。venture businessは和製英語であり，1970年に中村秀一郎と清成忠男が独自の概念構成を行った。すなわち，高い専門能力を有する企業家的人材が自分の能力を発揮するために大企業から飛び出し，リスクを引き受けて創造的に展開する事業である。アメリカでは，こうした企業をhigh potential venture,new growth ventureなどと呼んでいる。
