Born on August 9, 1858. Studied at Tsukiji University in Tokyo. Graduated from Tokyo Unity Theological Seminary (now Meiji Gakuin University) in 1879 and became the pastor of Ginza Church. In 1902, he published "The Japanese Bride" in America, which caused controversy in Japan, and he left the Church of Christ in Japan. In 1903, he founded the Japan Sunday School Association and became its president. Died on January 7, 1934, aged 77. Born in Osaka. His works include "A Fifty-Year History of Faith."
