Surveying method - Sokuryoho

This law stipulates the surveying system. It was enacted as Law No. 188 in 1949 with the objectives of establishing standards for surveying, eliminating duplication, ensuring accuracy, disclosing survey results, coordinating various surveys, and contributing to the improvement and development of the surveying system. It covers land surveying, including adjusting maps and taking survey photographs. Among them, basic surveying is the basis for all surveying, and is carried out by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, an affiliated organization of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Engineers engaged in basic and public surveying must be registered as surveyors or assistant surveyors. After the Survey Law was enacted, the number of private surveyors increased with the progress of national land development projects and economic growth, and in order to ensure the proper management and sound development of the surveying industry, the law was partially revised in 1961, and those who contract and carry out basic or public surveying were limited to those registered as surveyors.

測量の制度を定めた法律。測量実施の基準，重複排除，精度の確保，測量成果の公開，各種測量の調整および測量制度の改善発達に資することを目的として昭和24（1949）年法律188号として制定された。対象は土地の測量で，地図の調整と測量用写真の撮影を含む。そのうち基本測量はすべての測量の基礎となる測量で，国土交通省の付属機関である国土地理院で行なう。基本測量と公共測量に従事する技術者は測量士または測量士補として登録された者でなければならない。測量法制定後，国土開発事業の進展や経済成長などに伴い民間測量業者が増加し，測量業の適正な運営と健全な発展をはかるため 1961年に法律の一部が改正され，基本測量または公共測量を請負って実施する者は測量業者として登録された者にかぎられることになった。
