Japanese: ジゴペタルム（英語表記）Zygopetalum

An evergreen orchid of the Orchidaceae family. About 20 species of the Zygopetalum genus are distributed in the tropical regions of South America, and they have various life forms, including epiphytic, semi-epiphytic, and terrestrial. They have egg-shaped pseudobulbs and produce several long, thin leaves. The flower stalks arise from the axils of new shoots, are 40 to 50 cm long, and bear about 4 to 6 flowers. The flowers have large, fan-shaped lips and are fragrant. Zygopetalum mackayi Hook. is cultivated in Japan. The petals are yellow-green with purple spots, and the lip is white with blue-purple spots or lines.
