Gauge (English spelling)

Japanese: ゲージ(英語表記)gauge; gage
Gauge (English spelling)
It has three different meanings: (1) A standard instrument with a set size, shape, angle, etc., which generally cannot be adjusted during measurement. Examples of this type include block gauges, wire gauges, and thread gauges (→ limit gauges). (2) The name of an instrument or measuring device used to measure and evaluate physical quantities such as length, pressure, geometric shape, and strain. For example, dial gauges, pressure gauges, air gauges, and strain gauges. (3) Refers to the size and shape itself that are set as a standard, such as broad gauge and narrow gauge for railways (→ track gauge). When simply referring to a gauge, it often means (1), and can be divided into standard gauges, inspection gauges, and machining gauges depending on the application.
