《Pot of Gold》

…These works are based on the split duality between artistic fantasy and practical reality, from which ironic social criticism is born. His works include The Golden Pot (1814), a story about a college student who seeks social success but becomes captivated by a dreamland because of his love for a beautiful snake incarnate; The Devil's Fluid (1815-16), a novel about the strange fate of a monk and the disappearance of his family; The Sandman (1816), a story about a young man who is destined to fall in love with an automaton and is ruined; the Kreisleriana (1814-15), a collection of musical pieces that was used as the title of Schumann's piano collection; the crime novel Mademoiselle Scuderie (1819); the novel Mur's View of Life (1820-22); Princesse Brambilla (1821); and The Flea Master (1822), a controversial satire of the authorities. Most of his short stories, including those mentioned above, are collected in "Fantasies in the Style of Caro" (1814-15), "Night Scenes" (1817), and "The Brothers of Zelda" (1819-21).
