Its founder was Ueda Sokyo, a vassal of the Kumamoto domain from Ueda in Shinshu, who was a pupil of Okamoto Yasutaka, the founder of the Okamoto school. *Zappai, Yanagitaru-103 (1828), "The Ueda school copying the Sanada Gunki."② A school of horsemanship. Its founder was Ueda Tajima no Kami Shigehide, a pupil of Hosokawa Saemon no Sakumasa of the Otsubo school. [Honcho Bugei Koden (1716)]③ A school of shakuhachi. It was established in 1917 by Ueda Hodo, who studied under Nakao Tozan, the founder of the Tozan school, and became independent. It is practiced in the Kansai region.④ A school of spearmanship. It descends from the Hozoin school, and its founder was Ueda Daiemon Hideo, a samurai of the Shibata domain in Bushu.⑤ A school of tea ceremony. It was founded by Ueda Soko, who studied under Rikyu and Oribe. It is handed down through the Asano family of Hiroshima. 〘名〙① 書道の一流派。岡本流の祖、岡本保孝の門人で、信州上田出身の熊本藩祐筆上田素鏡を祖とする。※雑俳・柳多留‐一〇三(1828)「真田軍記を写してる上田流」② 馬術の一流派。大坪流細川左衛門佐康政の門人、上田但馬守重秀を祖とする。〔本朝武芸小伝(1716)〕③ 尺八の一流派。都山流の祖、中尾都山に学んだ上田芳憧が、大正六年(一九一七)に独立しておこした。関西地方に行なわれる。④ 槍術の一流派。宝蔵院流の流れをくむもので、武州新発田藩の藩士上田台右衛門英生を祖とする。⑤ 茶道流派の一つ。利休と織部に学んだ上田宗箇が開く。広島の浅野家に伝わる。
