〘名〙 (古く「あんせん」とも)① (形動ナリ・タリ) 危険のないこと。平穏無事なこと。また、そのさま。※平家（１３Ｃ前）三「願はくは子孫繁栄絶えずして、〈略〉天下の安全(あんせん)を得しめ給へ」※浄瑠璃・平家女護島（1719）四「忽障礙消へうせて御所の震動安全たり」〔後漢書‐夏恭伝〕② (形動) 傷ついたり、こわれたり、盗まれたりする心配がないこと。また、そのさま。※東寺百合文書‐り・観応三年（1352）四月五日・小槻国治若狭太良庄地頭方代官職請文「悪党以下地下違乱出来之時、就_二内外_一、可_レ廻_二庄家安全計略_一」③ (━する) 心を落ち着かせること。気持を安らかにすること。※風曲集（1423頃）「万人の見聞も、眼はひとりと安全して、一調二機三声と歌出すべし」[語誌]中世まではアンセン・アンゼン両方あったが、「ロドリゲス日本大文典」や「日葡辞書」などから、中世末にはアンセンのほうが一般的であったと思われる。近世以後はアンゼンに変わり、近代以後「セン」の形は消滅した。
