〘名〙① 市街の道路。町なかの道。※続日本紀‐宝亀一一年（780）一二月甲辰「比来無知百姓、搆_二合巫覡_一、妄崇_二淫祀_一、蒭狗之設、符書之類、百方作_レ恠、填_二溢街路_一、前_レ事求_レ福、還渉_二厭魅_一」※玉塵抄（1563）五三「朝廷の前宮闕の馬場に、街路の両方に槐をなみうえらるるぞ」〔白居易‐晩帰府詩〕② 市街地または都市計画区域内の幅員四メートル以上の公道。交通の目的のほかに、沿道の建築物に対する採光、通風、防災、景観なども考えて設計された道路。
